DESCRIPTION
Stand engineering watches. Support engineering officers by operating engineering equipment. Support engineering officers by assisting in planned and corrective maintenance activities.

Atlantic: The Atlantic Region consists of New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland and Labrador, minus the Nunatsiavut region in Labrador.
Western: The Western Region consists of British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Yukon, minus the Yukon slope.
Central: The Central Region consists of Ontario and Quebec, minus the Nunavik region in northern Quebec.

Program Knowledge and Application Program Knowledge and Application Knowledge of the programs the Canadian Coast Guard manages and supports. Understands the services and delivery of program mandates: Search and Rescue (SAR), Icebreaking (IB), Aids to Navigation (AtoN), Environmental Response (ER), Conservation and Protection (DFO C&P), Oceanography (DFO Science) and Fisheries Research (DFO Science).	2 Position Level: 2 Novice (A level of experience has been obtained; may need help when performing a task/skill) Limited knowledge of the Coast Guard's functions and the roles and responsibilities of key Coast Guard contacts within a regional organizational setting. Understands some programs and assets well.
Marine Engine Mechanical Knowledge Marine Engine Mechanical Knowledge Knowledge of mechanical tools and instruments, inspection, repair, maintenance of marine engines, electrical systems, transmissions, and auxiliary systems components.	3 Position Level: 3 Intermediate (Able to successfully complete the necessary tasks in this competency. Some assistance may still be needed but can usually perform the task independently) Practical knowledge of minor repair and first line maintenance of marine engines, electrical systems, transmissions, and fuel systems.

Materiel Management Materiel Management Classifies materiel according to Canadian Coast Guard and Public Services and Procurement Canada (PSPC) directives. Tracks materiel during receipt, storage, issue, and disposal.	1 Position Level: 1 Fundamental Awareness (Common knowledge or an understanding of basic techniques and concepts) Requests supplies based on demand. Ensures that proper receipt, identification, and inspection is carried out for all incoming materiel.
Life Cycle Asset Management Life Cycle Asset Management Employs an integrated approach to optimizing the life cycle of the Canadian Coast Guard’s assets beginning at conceptual design, continuing through shut down, and decommissioning/disposal.	1 Position Level: 1 Fundamental Awareness (Common knowledge or an understanding of basic techniques and concepts) Uses the of basics of the life cycle asset management program in daily activities. Performs routine asset management tasks. Manages the life cycle of tackle books, safety equipment, charts, etc. when and where applicable.
Troubleshooting Troubleshooting Employs a systematic approach to problems in order to find and correct issues with Canadian Coast Guard assets (e.g. land based, sea based, structural, electronic, etc.).	3 Position Level: 3 Intermediate (Able to successfully complete the necessary tasks in this competency. Some assistance may still be needed but can usually perform the task independently) Interprets data and accurately determines essential elements of an issue or problem. Applies various problem isolation techniques to determine causes. Tests equipment under multiple settings to confirm it is restored to working state.
Problem Solving Problem Solving Defining a problem, determining the cause of the problem, identifying alternative solutions, prioritizing and selecting them to find a solution, and implementing a solution.	2 Position Level: 2 Novice (A level of experience has been obtained; may need help when performing a task/skill) Recognizes and identifies a problem based on a clear set of factors. Able to identify, with some assistance, optimal solutions based on weighing the advantages and disadvantages of alternative approaches.
Engineering Watchkeeping Duties Engineering Watchkeeping Duties Operates and services main propulsion and auxiliary machinery while in use or required for use. Identifies issues, obtains relevant information, relates and compares data from different sources, and identifies alternate solutions.	3 Position Level: 3 Intermediate (Able to successfully complete the necessary tasks in this competency. Some assistance may still be needed but can usually perform the task independently) Participates in fueling, lube oil transfer, and waste oil products handling, and the production, transfer, testing and treatment of potable water. Performs minor repairs and assists in assembling, maintaining and repairing mechanical components according to required specifications.
